INVEST Mackay Whitsunday Isaac Conference 2010

The inaugural Invest Mackay Whitsunday Isaac Conference held recently was a great success with up to 100 delegates attending the full day conference and a dedicated breakfast sponsored by ANZ which featured guest speakers from local, state and federal government along with presentations from the private sector.

Regional Economic Development Corporation (REDC), Investment Attraction Manager, Martin Homisan, said that the conference was a great way to showcase everything the region has to offer.

“The purpose of the conference was to attract national and international investors to the region through promoting what is on offer.  Local residents who attended the conference said that the conference made them more aware of the investment opportunities that exist in our region.”

The Investment Conference signified the culmination of REDC’s Investment Attraction Project.  Mr Homisan said that the conference was a step in the right direction as it has built the foundation for more investment and promotional activities to occur in the near future.

“It is crucial that information about the region is being presented to the people who make the major decisions and the people who advise investors and the conference is one of the most effective ways to do this,” he said.

The event was proudly sponsored by ANZ, PRDnationwide Mackay, Wholesale Investor Magazine, Isaac Regional Council, Yanjian Group (Australia) Pty Ltd, North Queensland Bulk Ports Corporation, Aspen Living, CQUniversity, Keswick Developments, BMD Developments, Mackay Regional Council and Whitsunday Regional Council.

Who is REDC?

The Mackay Whitsunday Regional Economic Development Corporation (REDC) is supported by the Queensland Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation (DEEDI) and works in partnership with industry, business groups, government agencies, councils and other regional organisations interested in progressing employment opportunities, economic growth and community development within the region.

High growth region

Located half way between Brisbane and Cairns in Queensland Australia, the vibrant Mackay Whitsunday Isaac region is home to 165,000+ residents who enjoy a relaxed, tropical lifestyle mixed with contemporary services and facilities.

In 2008-2009 the Mackay Whitsunday Region generated in excess of $17.2 billion in economic value.  The three regional government areas host agriculture and mining hubs and is ‘the centre of excellence for mining’ in conjunction with the local Central Queensland University.

Despite the global economic uncertainty the regional outlook remains positive with more than $48.7 billion in investment projects recorded at the end of February 2010.
