Renewable Energy

Liveability Audit - completed May 2009

Due to the rapid rate of expansion in the region, there were concerns that social infrastructure may not have kept pace with growth. This was thought to cause not only social issues but significant economic impacts because employee attraction and retention efforts are undermined by perceived weaknesses in social infrastructure. Reliable and current information is required in order to be able to address these perceptions and any social infrastructure constraints. A key aspect of this is to understand the factors affecting individual and family decisions to (i) relocate to; (ii) remain living in; and/or (iii) move away from the region. This project involves a resident survey and an economic analysis of required social infrastructure improvements.

Energy Audit - November 2007

The primary purpose of the study is to assess the ongoing ability of business and industry in the region to access required energy at competitive rates. This results in a Regional Energy Supply Report which identifies our capability to meet current energy needs, discusses potential future needs and options for meeting these needs in a cost-competitive manner.

The regional report feeds into a combined North Qld report which is designed to demonstrate the need for a baseload powerstation in North Qld. The study seeks to better understand the current regional energy supply, to identify potential future constraints and/or opportunities related to this supply and further development of the region, to consider options for additional future energy supply, including new generation and external sources, and to contribute to ongoing evaluation of industry development opportunities through consideration of the impact of energy availability and cost.

Careers/Lifestyle Expos

REDC has coordinated a regional presence at several lifestyle and careers expos aimed at trying to attract potential residents and skilled workers to the region.
