The REDC is the peak economic development organisation for the Mackay Whitsunday Region. The region encompasses the Mackay Statistical Division, which includes the eight local government areas of Belyando, Bowen, Broadsound, Mackay, Mirani, Nebo, Sarina and Whitsunday.
The Queensland State Government, through the Department of State Development, sponsors the MWREDC to co-ordinate regional economic development activity, act as a conduit for the region into the Queensland State Government and undertake projects of significant regional and economic impact. Representation from all geographic areas and key industries of the region are a feature of the REDC's board.

Economic Development
The Mackay region boasts a relaxed tropical lifestyle with spectacular recreation options as the base for business establishment, development and wealth creation. Located on the east coast of Queensland Australia, Mackay is located 900km north of Brisbane and 700km south of Cairns, cementing position as a logistical mid point.
The Region is home for the larger part of Qld's Sugar industry and Bowen basin Coal mining industry. Surrounding this economic base is a thriving engineering and manufacturing sector producing world leading technology and quality with exports growing annually.
Excellent export facilities exist in the region with three major seaports channelling the region's bounty to worldwide destinations.
